Tour de
Staveley - Saturday 11th July 2009
I know there
are a few keen road cyclists amongst us at the moment so
I just wanted to let you know about Toby's Tour de
Staveley which is on Saturday 11th July. It is a non
competitive ride and there is a long course (45 miles)
and a short course (25 miles). It's a really good event
and your entry includes a post French meal at Wilfs plus
drinks. Tickets are £16 and you can get them in the shop
or online. I know a few of you came along last year
either to cycle or marshall. Would be lovely to see you

Wilier and
Cannondale will be there with a selection of road bikes
to demo as well so if you fancy trying one you can book
one out for the ride but you'd have to get in quick! If
you don't fancy riding and would be free to marshall
please let me know.

This is a super event from a very attractive country
show. The senior race is an excellent Grasmere style
blast up and down.
The race is not organised by a local club, and they
struggle to find people to help out. Adding the
Uphill Champs makes it even harder. As Ambleside is
one of the local clubs, I said I would try to get
her some help. I will be on registration, until it
is time for me to do my Junior Coordinator stuff!
I would be very grateful to anyone who can spare
some time to assist Christine Kenyon.

consulatation with several members it has been
decided that final decisions will be made at the
AGM, with folk voting for the most deserving
male and female. This seems the fairest way.
If you can't
make it the AGM please either ask someone to
vote for you or make sure you let respective
captains know who you want to own the sparkling
silver trophies.

AMBLESIDE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS...
Another award
to add to our ceremonies at the Christmas do (!)
Thought it would be good to celebrate the
successes of a few more of our runners.
So...there will be a male and female achievement
award this year, don't get too excited about
prizes/silverware, let's not get carried away.
Please email
your nominations for male/female to respective
club captains by the end of November, final
decisions will then be made by captains and
engravings made. 'Achievement' could be defined
as a running/long distance challenge, making
huge progress through the year, great results in
races, recovering from an injury/illness etc...
Get those
nominations in!

talk by Simon Yates
Here's an
opportunity to attend a talk by Simon Yates at
the Hawkshead Brewery, Staveley Mill Yard, on
Friday 7 November at 8.15pm
Simon's one
hour talk is part of the AGM meeting for the
Lake District Mountain Trial Association (fell
runners).
Please send

Cost is £5
per head on the door unless you had entered the
Trial, in which case its free.
An optional
Buffet meal between the AGM and the talk, is
available from Wilfs @ £7. It needs pre-booking
